How Hawai'i hotels are faring

O'ahu hotels' weekly occupancy improved 5.4 percent over the prior year to 64.9 percent, according to Hospitality Advisors LLC. O'ahu was the only island that showed gains in both occupancy and room rates last week. Statewide hotel occupancy also increased slightly by 1.9 percent to 62.8 percent over the same week last year. Kaua'i led all islands in occupancy at 72.6 percent, a 1.1 percent decline from last year. Maui occupancy declined by 2.7 percent to 60.4 percent. Big Island occupancy recorded a small 0.4 percent gain to 52.9 percent.
