What's open, closed on Discoverers' Day

Advertiser Staff

Monday is Discoverers' Day (Columbus Day on the Mainland), observed in the Islands as a federal holiday, but no longer a state or county holiday. With a few exceptions, it will be a regular Monday for city and state services, including rubbish pickup and landfill operations; bus service; traffic and street parking; and open markets. Libraries, schools, universities and most tourist attractions will be open. Some museums will be closed, as they normally are on Mondays. Exceptions:

• GOVERNMENT: Federal offices closed; city and state offices open.

• MAIL: Post offices closed; no regular business or residential delivery; regular (blue) collection box pickup and Express Mail delivered.

• FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS: Most banks, savings and loans and credit unions closed.
