The victory stretched the Rainbow Wahine's (16-1, 4-0 WAC) conference winning streak to 78 and their season streak to 15. The Broncos dropped to 5-14 and 1-4. They have won more matches this season than the last two combined.
But Boise has yet to come close against Hawai'i. The 'Bows won 20 of the first 25 points last night and cruised in clearing the bench. Even with Willoughby home sick, they hit .367. Lily Kahumoku, UH's other first-team All-American, led the team with 13 kills and hit .550.
Freshman Alicia Arnott, who started for Willoughby, added nine kills.
"Playing in this gym, it's so small I felt like I was back in high school," the La Pietra graduate said.
"Alicia had a good game time tonight," UH coach Dave Shoji said. "Nine is a good number for her, she contributed enough. I thought she held her own out there. They served her almost every time. They knew she was the rookie but she did well. She played good defense and passed OK."
In their first three WAC matches, the Rainbow Wahine collected 17 stuffs. Last night they had 11 in the second game and finished with 18. Lauren Duggins was in on half. Karin Lundqvist played just the final game and had three stuffs, while going 4-for-5 offensively.
The net dominance helped Boise State hit negative .009 for the match despite freshman Cameron Flunder's 12 kills and .579 hitting percentage.
"We were bigger than the other team for the first time," Shoji said. "We've been working hard on blocking and tonight we got the blocks straight down or back deep into the court. Usually we deflect the ball on our side but tonight we got the ball to go where we want."
UH plays at Texas-El Paso tomorrow at 9 a.m. HST. The match will be broadcast live on 1420 AM.
The Rainbow Wahine play three home matches next week, against Louisiana Tech (Thursday), East Division leader SMU (Saturday) and Arizona (Sunday) of the Pac-10. Willoughby is expected to be healthy for the home series.
