SURFING: Kaua'i's Irons advances in Quiksilver Pro France

World champion Andy Irons of Kaua'i, the only Hawaii surfer left in the contest, advanced to the fourth round of the Quiksilver Pro France yesterday.

The third round of the men's surfing contest was completed in 4- to 6-foot waves at Hossegor, France.

Irons defeated French wildcard entry Frederick Robin, 13.17-11.2.

Kennelly in world title chase: Kaua'i's Keala Kennelly is still ranked No. 1 on the women's World Championship Tour after the conclusion of the Roxy Pro France yesterday at Hossegor, France.

Chelsea Georgeson of Australia beat defending world champion Layne Beachley of Australia to win the contest.

Megan Abubo of Waialua was eliminated by Georgeson in the quarterfinals. Kennelly was eliminated earlier in the week.

There is one contest remaining on the tour — the Billabong Pro at Honolua Bay, Maui, in December.
