'Ewa Beach man killed in car crash

A 21-year-old 'Ewa Beach man died early yesterday morning after his car spun out of control and slammed into a light post on Ala Napunani Street in Salt Lake. Police said a 17-year-old female passenger was seriously injured. The accident occurred about 1:20 a.m. when the driver of the 2000 white Ford Focus, who police say was speeding, lost control and spun more than once on wet pavement before the car struck a light post. The driver and passenger were taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where the driver was pronounced dead. The driver was wearing a seat belt.

Driver critical in Wai'anae accident

A man in his 20s was in critical condition yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center after crashing his car near the Army range at Makua. He was driving a white Honda on Farrington Highway in Wai'anae at about 4:30 a.m., police said. He was unable to negotiate a slight curve in the road near the range, police said. The car went off into the grass, hit a road sign, climbed a berm and ran into several boulders. The driver was ejected from the car. He suffered head trauma and other internal injuries, and was flown by helicopter to Queen's, where he remained in critical condition yesterday. Police say speed was a factor.

Man found after missing court date

Police acting on an anonymous tip to CrimeStoppers arrested a man who had been convicted of drug charges and failed to show up in court. HPD Detective Letha DeCaires said Wayne Inouye had asked a judge to delay his jail sentence so he could care for his elderly parents. When the delayed date came, the parents showed up for a final hearing, but Inouye did not. The parents said they did not know where he was. The tip yesterday directed police to Ala Moana Center, where they arrested Inouye.
