Consulting firm to review HVCB

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i Tourism Authority plans to hire Candon Consulting Group LLC for $80,000 to conduct a special master’s review of Hawai'i Visitors & Convention Bureau’s operations.

The tourism authority moved to hire a special master after a state audit of the visitors bureau sharply criticized its operations and inappropriate use of state money. The audit led HVCB President Tony Vericella to resign.

Candon will be reviewing the visitors bureau’s practices, including its business policies, oversight and accounting. The consultants will then prepare findings and recommendations.
