O'ahu's drivers enduring loads of roadwork this week

State officials say an unusual number of work crews are on the roads this week, making traffic slower than usual. The projects, new and ongoing, take place across O'ahu, so motorists should plan on additional driving time.

All work is done between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

• Moanalua Freeway area. One lane will be closed in each direction through today as work continues on lighting improvement.

Officials say the lane closures may occur at different times in both directions between McGrew Loop and Aloha Stadium, and in the 'ewa direction along Moanalua Road from the freeway to 'Aiea Access Road.

• Kalaniana'ole Highway. One lane will be closed in each direction between H-1 Freeway and Laukahi Street through today for road repairs.

During lane closures, Waiku Street will be closed and left turns into 'Ainakoa Avenue may be prohibited. In addition, the on-ramp from Kahala will be closed today.

• Kamehameha Highway near Salt Lake Boulevard. Westbound lanes will be closed today near the Pearl City Post Office and on eastbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway near the ramp exiting Hickam Air Force Base.

• Kamehameha Highway near Waiahole. One lane will be closed between Waiahole Valley road and Ka'a'awa Place through today for bridge, drainage and guardrail work.

• H-2 Freeway. Lanes will be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday for regular maintenance.

In addition, the right southbound lane will be closed 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. from the Waipahu/Wai'anae off-ramp to the H-1/H-2 merge. One north-bound lane will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday from Plantation Road to Meheula Parkway overpass.

• Likelike Highway. One lane will be closed in the Honolulu-bound direction from Wilson Tunnel to Burmeister Overpass through today for drainage work.

One lane will be closed in both directions from Valley View Drive to Burmeister overpass through tomorrow for median reconstruction work.

• Nimitz Highway near downtown. Nighttime lane closures continue between Sumner and Queen Streets through today for water line and railing work. One or two lanes will be closed in either direction from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

In addition, the bicycle route and sidewalk in the diamond head direction are closed until further notice.

• Nimitz Highway near Kalihi. Single lane closures may occur in each direction through Saturday near Sand Island Access Road and from Kalihi Street to Ke'ehi Interchange. Weekday work is scheduled 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
