Man allegedly tried to take dryer

Honolulu police arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion that he attempted to steal a clothes dryer Wednesday from an 'Ewa Beach home. Police said a housekeeper driving by a house she maintains noticed the suspect and another man carrying the dryer out through an open back gate toward a vehicle parked on the street at about 5 p.m.

The housekeeper called police after contacting the owner of the residence to confirm that no one had permission to remove the dryer. Police said the two men left the dryer and drove off, but the woman provided police with a license number.

The owner of the vehicle was arrested at his home and booked for first-degree burglary.



Store managers robbed in Mo'ili'ili

Two women were robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash in Mo'ili'ili Sunday morning after being sprayed with an unknown aerosol chemical. The women, managers of a store, were walking on the makai sidewalk of South King Street near University Avenue at 7:45 a.m. to make a bank deposit.

Police said two men were involved in the robbery. One grabbed a handbag containing money and the other sprayed the women as they struggled to hang on to the bag.

The two men ran away.

Victim in beating dies in hospital

A man who told police he was beaten by a group of men last weekend died yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center.

Police said the 41-year-old man checked himself into the hospital on Wednesday. He said he had been beaten by several men while in Waikiki late Oct. 10.

The man's condition worsened and he was pronounced dead yesterday. An autopsy will be conducted today.

No arrests have been made in the case.



No-contest plea in Internet sex case

A 27-year-old Honolulu man pleaded no contest Tuesday to a felony charge of first-degree electronic enticement of a child, according to the attorney general's office.

Grant N. Detwiler used his personal computer at home to conduct an electronic chat with a person who was posing as a 13- year-old girl, the office said. During the chat session, Detwiler asked the purported 13-year-old to meet him and said that he wanted sex, the office said.

Law enforcement officers assigned to the Hawaii Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested Detwiler when he arrived at the meeting place, according to the attorney general's office.

Detwiler's sentencing is set for Jan. 6.
