Metzger, partner reach beach final

Stein Metzger and new partner Dax Holdren upset the second seeded team of Benjamin Insfran and Marcio Henrique, 21-19, 21-14, yesterday in the semifinals of the Beach Volleyball World Championships at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Metzger, a Punahou School and UCLA alum, and Holdren are playing in their second tournament together and will face top seeds Ricardo Alex Costa Santos and Emanuel Rego also of Brazil in today's final.

HPU unbeaten in PacWest: Flavia Brakling had 13 kills and Barbara Martin added 10 as the No. 11 Hawai'i Pacific University women's volleyball team swept Hawai'i-Hilo, 30-24, 30-21, 30-26, in a Pacific West Conference match last night at St. Andrew's Priory gym. Sara Pilgreen had a match-high 16 kills for the Vulcans (5-9, 2-3).
The Sea Warriors improved to 14-2, 6-0.

BYUH sweeps Chaminade: Chun Yi Lin had 16 kills and Ashley Moeai and Silvia Oliveira added 14 apiece as No. 13 Brigham Young-Hawai'i swept Chaminade, 30-18, 30-28, 30-27, in a PacWest match last night at McCabe Gym. The Seasiders improved to 14-2 overall and 6-0 in the PacWest.
Kahala Kabalis had 14 kills to lead Chaminade (8-8, 3-2).

Two Rainbows ousted: Two University of Hawai'i men's players were eliminated by Washington players at the ITA Fall Regional Tournament yesterday at Eugene, Ore. Ryan Sceats lost in the round of 32 to Pete Scharler, 6-3, 6-1, while Jarrod Diepraam fell to Chris Floyd, 6-2, 6-2, in the consolation draw.
MEETING
QB Club: University of Hawai'i running backs coach Wes Suan, defensive backs coach/defensive coordinator Rich Miano and soccer star Natasha Kai will be the featured speakers at tomorrow's weekly meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club. Suan and Miano will discuss yesterday's road victory over Louisiana Tech and next week's game against Texas-El Paso.
The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program at noon at the Pagoda Restaurant.
