Galuteria CD, cookbook coming out in Nov.

SOMETHING'S COOKIN': Brickwood Galuteria, who hosts KHON-2's "Hawai'i's Kitchen," is eagerly awaiting the publication of the "Hawai'i's Kitchen Cookbook," expected the third week of November and in time for Christmas giving. Galuteria also is anticipating, around the same time, the release of his "Live Sessions on the Moon" CD, recorded at the Brew Moon at Ward Centre with Imai and Friends, his backup mates led by Imaikalani Young.

Since Young is on vacation, Galuteria has invited Buddy and Sammi Fo to sit in for two Aloha Friday gigs (last week and this week) at Brew Moon. There's a familial connection with Galuteria and Buddy — Galuteria's late uncle, Richard Kauhi, was the longtime mentor of singer Fo. ...

SIGHT 'EMS: Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys was hanging out with pals at the Barefoot Bar at Duke's Canoe Club in Waikiki recently. The restaurant also attracted the "American Idol" crew when the Fox-TV folks were in town auditioning, though acerbic judge Simon Cowell was not among the celebrants. Perhaps a good thing — who knows what he might have said about the resident talent, Kapena, and Henry Kapono. ...

Wedding bells will chime in Las Vegas shortly when singers Dita Holifield and Ellsworth Simeona tie the knot. The ceremony will be a tiny, family affair; pals toasted Holifield at a bridal shower hosted by Lisa Josephsohn at Compadres. ...

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Mark DeMello is new g.m. of the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel; veteran club-goers will recall he used to sing lead with The Kasuals and does infrequent gigs in-between his hotel work. ...

Hawai'i has been getting some unsolicited good press in magazines. In Vanity Fair, Joan Didion, the author, reveals she wants to live at various places for a month or so at a time, and Kailua is one of her dream destinations. In L.A. Confidential, p.r. wizard Paul Bloch (co-chairman of Rogers & Cowan) says his favorite escape for a working holiday is the Kahala Mandarin Oriental. ...

Old movie buff Steve Fredrick has mounted "The Vampire Show: A Tribute to Bela Lugosi's Dracula," 3:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at the McCully-Mo'ili'ili Public Library. Besides the Lugosi classic, there will be snippets from "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" and "The Raven." Fredrick, on the library staff, will talk about Lugosi and those Drac flicks, and share tales about his friendship with the late Hope Lugosi, widow of Bela, who lived in Honolulu for years until her death in 1997. ...

When Wave Waikiki celebrates its 23rd anniversary Nov. 29, the party will be twofold: an invitational slot from 8 to 10 p.m., then a public to-do from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. (21 and older, please). There will be guest deejays, lots of music, and tons of giveaways. ...
