Hawai'i goalie Atay honored by WAC

University of Hawai'i goalie Mahie Atay has been named Western Athletic Conference women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
It's the second such honor this season for the sophomore from Wailuku, Maui.
Atay did not give up a goal in more than 210 minutes of action against Idaho State, Fresno State and San Jose State. She recorded a season-high nine saves in a 3-0 win over Fresno State, helping her to a school-record fifth solo shutout of the season.
On the week, Atay posted three shutout wins and recorded 11 saves. She owns a WAC-best 0.73 goals against average in conference matches. UH has recorded 11 shutouts this season, including the last four matches in a row.
The Rainbow Wahine (13-4-1) close the regular season with a home match against Brigham Young on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
VOLLEYBALL
PacWest honors BYUH's Lin: Brigham Young-Hawai'i middle blocker Chun Yi Lin has been named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.
The 6-foot-1 sophomore from Pingtune, Taiwan, had 31 kills and hit .419 in two wins over Chaminade.
Lin leads the PacWest with a .438 hitting percentage and 1.16 blocks per game.
SURFING
Merle-Jones, Perkins prevail: Jesse Merle-Jones and Bonga Perkins took top honors at the Hurley Pro surfing contest Saturday.
The finals were completed in 3- to 4-foot waves at Turtle Bay.
Merle-Jones, who is from Kaua'i, won the shortboard surfing division and $1,000. Perkins, who resides in Hale'iwa, won the longboard surfing division and $700.
The contest was the second stop in the Macy's E-Series. The next contest in the series is scheduled for Dec. 6-7 at Ma'ili Point.
GOLF
UH's Kodama tied for third: University of Hawai'i senior Matt Kodama shot a 4-under 68 yesterday and was tied for third after the first round of the Barona Collegiate Cup at Lakeside, Calif.
Kodama was three strokes behind leader Chris Cousins of Alabama-Birmingham in the 54-hole tournament at the 7,088-yard Barona Creek Golf Course.
The Warriors shot 297 and were tied for 14th in the 18-team field.
Colorado State leads by three strokes after opening with 273.
