ISLE FILE
Seabury's Roberts headed to Pepperdine

Advertiser Staff

Looking for a college that "fits my personality," Seabury Hall senior middle hitter Lecca Roberts said she has accepted a volleyball scholarship offer from Pepperdine.

Roberts, who is 6 feet 3 1/2, said she also had been offered scholarships by Hawai'i, UC Santa Barbara and Loyola Marymount. The Advertiser second-team all-state selection last year said the smaller campus atmosphere at Pepperdine was a better fit for her personality. She added that the Malibu campus location also was a factor because it is similar to home.

"It has everything I grew up with," she said. "I'll be near the ocean."

Roberts said she also liked Nina Matthies' coaching background, which includes beach volleyball. Roberts said she would like to play on the pro beach circuit when her college eligibility ends.

Seabury Hall athletic director Steve Colflesh said Roberts is "really intense and a well-rounded player."

She will join 2003 Kamehameha graduate Kekai Crabbe, who is a freshman libero for the Waves.
