Museum hires new researcher

The Bishop Museum has hired anthropologist Tianlong Jiao to research the links between Chinese and Polynesian artifacts. In this newly created position, he will focus on researching the origins of the indigenous people of Hawai'i and other Polynesian groups and look for links to his research conducted on Chinese artifacts.

Most recently, he was a Teaching Fellow in Harvard University's Anthropology Department and a researcher at Sackler Museum at Harvard University. Before that, he was Assistant Research Fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' Institute of Archaeology in Beijing.

He is a member of several ongoing archaeological projects involving Neolithic seafaring and rice domestication in China. He has also authored many books on Chinese civilization and received several prominent awards from Harvard University.
