Robb eliminated in Spanish surf

Advertiser Staff

Kalani Robb of O'ahu's North Shore was eliminated in the second round of the Billabong Pro Mundaka yesterday in 1- to 3-foot waves and chilly conditions at Mundaka, Spain.

Robb led throughout most of the heat, but Brazil's Victor Ribas caught a high-scoring wave in the final seconds to prevail. The final score was 11.84 to 9.94.

Robb was the only Hawai'i surfer remaining in the contest.

Kelly Slater of Florida and Taj Burrow of Australia — the two surfers chasing No. 1-ranked Andy Irons of Kaua'i for the world championship — both advanced to the third round. Irons was eliminated in the first round last week.
