Feldman, Stubblefield win match play event

Defending champions Andrew Feldman and Larry Stubblefield defeated Beau Yokomoto and Wade Nishimoto, 3 and 2, yesterday in the final of the Aloha Section PGA's $9,000 Golf Concepts 4-Ball Match Play Championship at Oahu Country Club.

Feldman and Stubblefield advanced to the final earlier in the day with a 6-and-5 win over David Kowalczyk and Marc Smith. Yokomoto and Nishimoto beat Shane Abe and Scotty Kaneko, 2 and 1, in the other semifinal.

In the championship match, Yokomoto and Nishimoto surged to a 4-up lead after seven holes. Feldman and Stubblefield won Nos. 8, 9, 10 and 11 to tie the match.

They halved the 12th hole, before Stubblefield's three birdies won the next three holes for a 3-up lead. When they halved No. 16, the match ended.


McLachlin opens with 4-under 68

Honolulu's Parker McLachlin shot 4-under-par 68 in the first round of the first stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School at Dayton Valley Golf Course in Dayton, Nev.

McLachlin was tied for 16th with seven others going into the second round of the 72-hole tournament. The top 21 and ties advance to the second stage. There are 12 other first-stage sites.

Jason Allen, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mike Pearson, of Alpharetta, Ga., lead with 62s.

McLachlin won the 1996 state high school championship as a Punahou junior. He played for UCLA and turned pro last month.

Area pros qualify for national event

John Lynch, of the Aloha Academy of Golf at Ko'olau, tied for fifth and Mauna Kea's Kevin Hayashi tied for 15th at the 2003 Western Regional Club Professional Championship Monday.

Both qualified for the 2004 National PGA CPC, June 24-27 in Nashport, Ohio.

The regional was shortened to two rounds when Monday's final round was washed out by rain. Lynch shot 68-70—138 and won $5,600. Hayashi shot 71-69—140 to win $1,771.

Michael Henderson, from Dallas, was declared the winner at Indian Summer Golf & Country Club, in Olympia, Wash. Henderson took the lead after shooting a second round 5-under-par 66 for a two-day total of 135.

Hawai'i's Brendan Moynahan (72-147), Andrew Feldmann (75-148), Brian Sasada (74-150), Casey Paulson (79-153) and John Freitas (78-156) missed the cut.


808golf.com Ho'olaulea set

The inaugural 808golf.com Ho'olaulea will be held Nov. 1-2 at Pearl Country Club, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The weekend will feature demo days from golf products manufacturers, a swap meet, sample sale, skills contests to benefit junior golf and mini-clinics by Aloha Section PGA pros.

There will also be food and music. Admission is free.
