Advertiser Staff and News Services
Wood spent a decade playing nightclubs in Waikiki with the Doggs, who jammed with artists such as David Bowie, Elvin Bishop and Peter Frampton.
After the band broke up, Wood became a heroin addict and served time in jail. While behind bars, he corresponded with authors Anne Rice and Elmore Leonard. Wood now lives in San Diego with his son Zachary, and writes, plays music and (in his own words) "enjoys the good life." His first novel is called "Young and Dead."
Longo makeovers
Celebrity makeup artist Vincent Longo, whose philosophy is: "Makeup is not about concealing but enhancing natural beauty," will make his first Hawai'i appearance from 1 to 6 p.m. Nov. 5-6 at Sephora, Ala Moana Center.
He and his team of artists will highlight the new fall looks and offer inside tips while doing makeovers.
Longo, who originally is from Australia and studied fine art in Italy, is known for creating faces for Hollywood stars and New York models. He is a contributor to fashion magazines and has his own line of makeup.
Longo's take on fall trends: False eyelashes are back. Eye shadows are soft and favor eggplant, taupe, peach, apricot and petal pink. Lips are well defined, rich in texture with a soft matte finish.
Advance registration is required. The $35 fee is redeemable in Vincent Longo products during the event. Phone 944-9797 for an appointment.

'Boomtown' booted
WILLIAMS |
"Boomtown," which was never an audience favorite despite being hailed by critics last season, seemingly has become the first casualty of the new TV season. The move came despite the addition of Vanessa L. Williams to the cast and a creative revamp.
The network also has pulled the highly publicized comedy "Coupling" from the schedule during the November sweeps period.
