'Aiea tops No. 3 Moanalua in boys volleyball

'Aiea, the Western division's sixth seed, defeated Moanalua, the Eastern division's third seed, 25-19, 25-18, for the only upset yesterday in boys varsity action in the first round of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association volleyball playoffs yesterday at Farrington High School.

In other games, East No. 4 Kaimuki beat West No. 5 Kapolei, 25-18, 25-22, West No. 4 Pearl City topped East No. 5 McKinley 25-23, 25-12, and West No. 3 Leilehua beat East No. 6 Castle 25-16, 25-22.



GOLF

• McLachlin tied for 21st: Honolulu's Parker McLachlin is tied for 21st going into today's final round of the PGA Tour Qualifying School First Stage in Dayton, Nev. The top 21 and ties after today's round at Dayton Valley Golf Course advance to the second stage. After shooting 73 in the second round, McLachlin rallied with a 5-under 67 yesterday and is at 8-under 208.



TENNIS

• UH players advance: The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team advanced two singles players and two doubles teams into the main draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Western Regional yesterday at San Diego.

Kana Aikawa and Sylvia Jaros went 3-1 in singles and doubles matches to advance for the Rainbow Wahine. Lauren Fitzgerald is also playing singles and will team up with Paige Mainor in doubles.

The tournament, at San Diego, begins today.
