Services set Nov. 3 and 4 for Kekoa David Kaapu

Funeral services for Kekoa David Kaapu, former Honolulu City Council member and community activist, will be held Nov. 3 and 4. Kaapu, who died Oct. 15, was 66.

Kaapu was born in Kahuku. He attended Harvard University through a Navy ROTC scholarship and later was commissioned an officer in the Marine Corps, serving as an aviator and intelligence officer.

Kaapu won a seat on the City Council in 1964. He later held various positions in the state and city governments, and also worked as a self-employed publisher.

He is survived by a son, Kekoa Jr.; a daughter, Carole Kaapu; and a sister, Kapua Fonoimoana.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. Nov. 3 at Hawaiian Memorial Park, with a service at 7 p.m. Visitation again from 4 p.m. Nov. 4 in the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Chapel at Kamehameha Schools; service at 4:30 p.m.
