Prince shows on O'ahu, Maui

By Derek Paiva
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

U all ready 4 this? The artist once again known as Prince is returning to Hawai'i for shows on O'ahu and Maui this week. Tickets, $75, went on sale yesterday for a Thursday night club gig at Pipeline Café, and sold this morning for a show Saturday at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Castle Theater. What version of His Royal Badness you will be getting for your $75, however, is another story.

Depending on his mood and muse, Prince's set lists at his latest shows have been as unpredictable as the extended funk jams that clutter his recent albums. At an hourlong Los Angeles performance in August, he didn't sing at all, but instead featured jazz instrumentals from his new CD, "N.E.W.S." Earlier this month in Hong Kong, he covered career high points like "Sign O' The Times," "Controversy," and "Purple Rain."

The Honolulu show is set for 10 p.m. Get tickets for Prince's Pipeline Café show at Ticketmaster and Foodland, by phone at (877) 750-4400, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Get tickets for Prince's Maui show at the MACC box office only — no phone or online sales — for $80.
