Former University of Hawai'i quarterback MICHAEL STENNIS, who went on to become a successful businessman and high-ranking official in the California state university system, died Sunday morning in his Los Angeles home. He was 45. See story.

Command Sgt. Maj. JAMES D. BLANKENBECLER, 40, of Fort Hood, Texas, formerly of Schofield Barracks, was killed in action Oct. 1, 2003, in Tikrit, Iraq, while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Born in Arlington, Va. Survived by wife, Linnie; children, Amanda Villalobos, Joseph Morales and Jessica; parents, Lowell and Joanne; brother, Jeff. Services Thursday in Texas.
