Rainbow Wahine will play host to China national team

Advertiser Staff

Rainbow Wahine basketball will open unofficially Nov. 16 with an exhibition against China's national team. The game will be played at 5 p.m. at Stan Sheriff Center.

The exhibition will be the final leg of China's tour, which includes a pair of games against a WNBA All-Star squad, as well as an exhibition at Oregon State. China is considered one of the Top 10 squads in the world. It won the 2002 Asian Games and has scheduled the tour in preparation for next month's Olympic qualifying.

The tour is organized by the United States Basketball Academy, which has worked with women's teams over the last five years at its training site in Springfield, Ore.

Tickets for the Hawai'i exhibition go on sale Monday at $5 for adults and $4 for senior citizens; ages 4-18 and UH students are admitted free. All tickets are general admission. They can be purchased at the Stan Sheriff Center box office, by calling 944-BOWS (2697) or via the internet at etickethawaii.com.

Season tickets are also on sale, at $75 for adults and $60 for senior citizens; ages 4-18 and UH students are free.

Seven freshmen join seven returnees this year. UH was 16-14 last season, finished fourth in the WAC and played in its fourth consecutive WNIT. It was picked fourth in this month's preseason poll of conference coaches.

Hawai'i opens against Lipscomb (Tenn.) in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic Nov. 22. Individual tickets for that game and the rest of the regular season go on sale Nov. 17.

Prices are $7 for adults and $6 for senior citizens, and $1 more for Rainbow Wahine Classic games.
