Kamehameha alum wins volleyball honor

Loyola Marymount senior outside hitter Kealani Kimball was named the West Coast Conference volleyball player of the week after leading the No. 13 Lions to wins over No. 12 Santa Clara and No. 16 San Diego.
Kimball (Kamehameha '00 of Kaunakakai, Moloka'i) led the squad in kills both nights, posting 22 against Santa Clara and 14 against San Diego.

Kimball added 18 digs, four blocks and three aces against the Broncos. Against San Diego, Kimball recorded 12 digs, five blocks and two aces.
Women's soccer
Oregon sophomore Mele French (Mililani '02 of Mililani) scored the game-winning goal on a header Saturday as the Ducks defeated California, 2-0, for the first time in program history.
Sophomore forward Nicole Garbin (Baldwin '01 of Wailuku) set up French on a 24-yard indirect kick.
Idaho State freshman Jennifer Loo (Mililani '03 of Mililani) scored the game-tying goal in the 87th minute as the Bengals defeated Sacramento State, 2-1, Sunday.
It was Loo's second goal of the season.
Nevada senior Leisha Makinano (Iolani '00 of Honolulu) was named the Western Athletic Conference offensive player of the week for Oct. 20.
She scored two goals, including the game-winner over Tulsa, as Nevada snapped its 10-game losing streak.
Hawai'i sophomore goalkeeper Mahie Atay (Baldwin '02 of Wailuku) was named the WAC's defensive player of the week.

Santa Clara sophomore Janalle Kaloi (Kamehameha '02 of Honolulu) teamed up with Erika Barnes in an 8-5 doubles victory over Sacramento State's Cristina Rivieccio and Ann Roslund at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/Omni Hotels Northwest Women's Regional Championships Friday.

Kaloi and Barnes fell in the Round of 32 to a tandem from Pacific. Kaloi lost in consolation singles to Kate Harden of St. Mary's (Calif.), 4-6, 6-3 (10-1).
Janalle's sister, Kimi Kaloi (Kamehameha '03) of Loyola Marymount, was swept by Hawai'i's Lauren Fitzgerald, 6-0, 6-1, in Round 1.
Women's volleyball
Oregon freshman outside hitter Sarah Mason helped the Ducks to a season-high 12.5 blocks in a 3-0 loss to No. 1 Southern California Friday night.
Mason (St. Joseph's '03 of Hilo) had three blocks and led Oregon with nine kills.
