Chaminade topples HPU in PacWest volleyball

Valasi Sepulona had 21 kills and Kahala Kabalis added 20 as Chaminade beat No. 17 Hawai'i Pacific, 19-30, 30-25, 30-24, 30-24, in a Pacific West Conference volleyball match last night at McCabe Gym.

Patti Hardimon had 11 kills and four of the Silverswords' 12 aces.

Nadica Karleusa and Paula Koikopoulos had 15 kills apiece for HPU.

Chaminade improved to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in the PacWest; HPU dropped to 15-4 and 6-2.



MORE VOLLEYBALL

• BYUH sweeps: Ashley Moeai had 15 kills, and Chun Yi Lin and Silvia Oliveira added 12 apiece as No. 6 Brigham Young-Hawai'i routed Hawai'i-Hilo, 30-14, 30-22, 30-23, in a non-conference volleyball match last night at UHH Gym.

The Seasiders (17-2) hit .252, while the Vulcans (6-12) managed only .047.

BYUH's Yu Chuan Weng had three aces.

Tiffanie Ollison led Hilo with seven kills.



GOLF

• Assistant's 4-Ball: Beau Yokomoto of Ko Olina and John Lynch of Aloha Academy shot a 65 yesterday to win the Assistant's 4-Ball Championship by nine strokes at Honolulu Country Club.

The pair finished with a two-day total of 126.

Scotty Kaneko and Kevin Tsutomi of Waikele finished at 135.

• OCC Senior Men's: Russ McGarry shot a 1-over 72 yesterday to win the senior division of the Oahu Country Club Senior Men's Invitational by three strokes over defending champion Merv Matsumoto.

McGarry finished with a two-day total of 141.

Wendell Kop repeated as super seniors champion with a 69—140. Runners-up Jim Swoish and Dick Palma finished 13 strokes back.



FIGHTING

• Ultimate Championship: Two Hawai'i mixed martial arts competitors Wes Correira and Falaniko Vitale will take part in the Ultimate Fighting Championship 45 on Nov. 21 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Hilo's Correira, who goes by the nickname "Cabbage," will fight heavyweight Tank Abbott (Huntington Beach, Calif.) in an eight-fight card that will be televised on pay-per-preview.

The Cabbage (18-4, 1-1 in UFC) made his debut at UFC 39 in September 2002.

Honolulu's Vitale (14-2, 1-0 in UFC) will fight middleweight Matt Lindland (Eagle Creek, Ore.) in a rematch of UFC 43.
