KAHULUI, Maui — Hawai'i's first Krispy Kreme Doughnuts store will open Jan. 27.

The announcement was made at an unveiling of a "countdown-to-opening" sign at the site of its Kahului store under construction on Kele Street near the corner of Dairy Road and Haleakala Highway. The event featured 100 dozen doughnuts flown in from Oregon.

Founded in 1937 in North Carolina, Krispy Kreme now operates 320 stores. Seattle-based KremeWorks USA owns the Pacific Northwest-Hawai'i-Alaska franchise.
