What's Up!
Honolulu is on the War path that is, the funky rock band that got its start in the '70s with "Low Rider" and "Why Can't We Be Friends" headlines this year's Vans Triple Crown of Surfing kickoff concert. Also on the bill: Ho'onu'a, Go Jimmy Go, Ooklah the Moc, B.E.T. and the winner of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing battle of the bands. Tickets: $23 in advance and $30 on the day of the show.

FESTIVAL: Nov. 8
The 4th annual Honolulu Harbor Festival celebrates the islands' colorful maritime history with harbor tours, tugboat hula, the Sand Island Challenge Outrigger Canoe Race and a re-creation of the Boston Tea Party. There's entertainment Kapena, Ka'ala Boys, Maunalua, Kanilau, Weldon Kekauoha and Tapa Groove, and the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet Band and children's activities, too. Admission is free.

The American classic "All My Sons," by Arthur Miller, takes the spotlight at the Hawai'i Pacific University Theatre. Written in 1947, this family drama examines social responsibility and morality as a young man confronts his father about his munitions company. Among the stars are Eric C. Field and Jo Pruden, above. Tickets: $18 general, $14 seniors, military, students, $3 HPU students; discounts available for Thursday shows.

"So May I Introduce to You" ... Dilated Peoples. The underground hip-hop and rap crew from the West Coast brings in its brash and provocative sounds as heard on its debut album "The Platform" and the highly anticipated followup "Expansion Team." "Cheer Up!" because Reel Big Fish is skanking back into town. The fun-loving ska band, known for such hits as "She Has a Girlfriend Now," "Sell Out" and "I Want Your Girlfriend to be My Girlfriend Too," is a big favorite with local concert-goers. Tickets: $17.50.

Air Supply Australian-born Russell Hitchcock and Briton Graham Russell brings its sweet love songs from the Decade of Greed to town. Known for such timeless love songs as "Even the Nights are Better," "All Out of Love" and "Lost in Love," the crooners enjoyed many top 5 hits since their formation in 1975. Tickets are $45 for upper level, $55 for middle level loge, $45-$65 for floor level risers and $65 for floor level seating. Proceeds from the concert will go to the Dominican Sisters ministry to build an elder-care facility on the North Shore.

Grammy award winner Dave Alvin will showcase his folksy blues artistry at his Hawai'i debut. The singer-songwriter-guitarist will appear with guitarist Rick Shea. Local guitar master Ledward Ka'apana also performs. Tickets: $25 at the door, or $20 in advance beginning Oct. 31.

Army Community Theatre's sixth season of Sundays @ 2 Matinee Readers Theatre continues with "Tobacco Road." This comedy by Jack Kirkland is adapted from the novel by Erskin Caldwell and portrays the life of Jeeter Lester and his family using hillbilly stereotypes. Tickets: $6.

Manoa Valley Theatre is staging the comedy/drama "Apartment 3A," written by Jeff Daniels. It's a modern tale of love and loss, revolving around a public television development director as she suffers from heartbreak and eventually mends with the help of a next-door neighbor. Tickets are $25 general, with a $5 discount for seniors and military; $15 for those 25 and younger.

The American rock 'n' roll phenomenon Little Feat brings its "Peace Journey Tour" to Hawai'i. The seven-member band brings more than three decades of boogie, southern rock and blues to our doorstep, along with the Vince Esquire band. Tickets: $28 in advance and $35 at the gate. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

FESTIVAL: Nov. 23
It's time once again for the annual Pasko celebration, co-sponsored by the Filipino Association of University Women. Now in its 15th year, the cultural festival celebrates the holidays Filipino style with dance and music presentations, cultural demonstrations, arts and crafts, and children's activities. This year's celebration honors the opening of a new gallery, "Art of the Philippines: The George and Nancy Ellis Gallery," which will be filled with contemporary art, gold jewelry, carved wood furniture and elaborate textiles. Admission is free.

Happy birthday, Wave Waikiki! The nightclub celebrates 23 years of wild nights and even wilder mornings as one of the hottest spots in town. Local alt rock band Missing Dave performs, along with other surprise guests from the Wave's colorful history. DJs spinning their sound include KSM, BTF, Alex, Sean G. and Tim B. Tickets are $10 before midnight, for 21 and older.

Your kokua, please: Tickets go on sale tomorrow, too, for that outdoor concert event hosted by Jack Johnson. The Kokua Festival, 10 a.m.-sunset Jan. 3 at Kualoa Ranch, promotes sustainable living in Hawai'i. Besides Johnson, performers include Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, Willie K, Makana, Michael Franti and Spearhead, and DJ Logic. Laugh it up: Comics Robert Schimmel, Paula Poundstone and Seth Meyers are heading this way for separate concerts at Pipeline Café. Schimmel is known for comedy on the raunchier side of the spectrum; he performs Dec. 11-12. Poundstone specializes in off-kilter observations of the world around her. She also made headlines a couple of years ago when she pleaded guilty to child endangerment and injury charges, and entered alcohol rehab. Her shows are Jan. 15-16 (she also has a 7 p.m. Jan. 17 show at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center). "Saturday Night Live" cast member Meyers and Jill Benjamin will perform improv and sketch comedy March 18-19. All Pipeline shows begin at 8 p.m.; doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets $20, $25 advance for the first two shows go on sale Nov. 17 at Hawaii's Natural High and Pipeline.
