THE LEFT LANE
Blasts from the past

Advertiser Staff and News Services

One band wrote the most fantastically trippy anthems ("Tin Man," "A Horse With No Name," etc.) ever put to analog tape, the other recorded, in our opinion, 1984's best make-out album, "17."

Longtime soft-rock favorites America and Chicago will share a double-bill at the Blaisdell Center Arena on Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. Tickets — $49 and $59 — go on sale tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Blaisdell box office, Ticketmaster outlets and Foodland and Sack 'N Save locations. For tickets, call (877) 750-4400 or see www.ticketmaster.com.

Can you dig it? Yes, we can.

Freebie for military

Arts buffs in the military: The Honolulu Academy of Arts wants you. To attend Military Appreciation Sundays, that is.

On the first Sunday of every month — including the one a couple days away — the art museum offers free admission for active duty, retired and reserve military people and their families in all branches of the service. The program runs from 1 to 5 p.m.

Military people and their families need to provide a military identification card. For information, call 532-8700.

Click for flick reviews

If there's one drawback to the Hawai International Film Festival, it's that the sheer number of films available can be overwhelming. How do you pick from 150 films coming from 34 countries?

The answer is a click away on the Internet at www.reviewedmovies.com. The site reviews all the movies. What's more, it was founded by local businessman Paul Klink, who is also working with festivals such as Cannes, Sundance and New York.

Klink's site has reviewers as young as 8 years old. His goal, he said, is to appeal to every age group.

You can even buy posters of your favorite movies at the site.

Women suiting up

"Dress for Success" is a program of the Richards Street YWCA that prepares women in transition to enter the job market by providing clothing, style consultations and emotional support. Their slogan: "Dress for Success turns a suit into a life jacket."

A fashion-oriented fund-raiser in support of the program will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the YWCA courtyard, 1040 Richards St., in downtown Honolulu.

Tickets cost $50 for YWCA members and $75 for nonmembers.

For information and tickets, call Kim Kubo at 538-7061, ext. 235, or e-mail dfshonolulu@ywcaoahu.org.
