University of Hawai'i athletic officials met with Vili "The Warrior" Fehoko yesterday to discuss an incident involving team mascots and cheerleaders during last Saturday's UH football game against Texas-El Paso at Aloha Stadium, according to a school press release.
Tom Sadler, UH associate athletic director, acknowledged that an incident between Fehoko and the UTEP mascot and cheerleaders occurred but said no formal charges or complaints have been filed by any of the parties involved.
"We reviewed (Fehoko's) role as the unofficial mascot of UH athletics and discussed ideas about practices and procedures of event management," Sadler said. "For instance, we will hold a preliminary meeting with both mascots and cheerleading squads before each game to review rules and regulations involving the event."
Sadler added that "the University is satisfied that this matter has been adequately addressed and no further action is planned."
Fehoko said: "I truly apologize to the University of Hawai'i for any negative effects this incident may have caused and am truly sorry to anyone it may have offended."
