• The economic benefits of Hawaiian issues — specifically the federal recognition bill now before Congress — will be the focus of an upcoming speech to the HAWAII SOCIETY OF CORPORATE PLANNERS. Speaking will be Robin J. Danner, president of the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement. The luncheon meeting and speech, "Native Hawaiian Recognition: Why Hawai'i Companies Should Care," is open to the public and scheduled noon to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki, Haleakala/Kilauea rooms. The direct financing for Hawai'i-based programs proposed in the Akaka bill now before Congress, said Danner, would have a multiplier effect in the local economy of about $216 million. • "INTRO TO NUMBERS," a workshop sponsored by the Hawaii Women's Business Center, will show how to keep financial records and what system best suits a business's needs. The session, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Small Business Resource Center, Suite A, 1041 Nu'uanu Ave., is offered as a prerequisite to the center's six-session, Interactive Computerized Booking series, using the "QuickBooks" application. • The MINORITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER OF HONOLULU will offer free weekly orientation sessions to minority business owners and prospective entrepreneurs. The sessions, scheduled 9 to 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday in the center's offices in Suite 2506 of the Executive Center, 1088 Bishop St., will offer advice on business startup, marketing plans, loans, employee handbooks and access to capital. • A free COMPUTER BOOT CAMP is offered 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to all small-business owners interested in using computer technology to improve and expand business operations and management. The program is sponsored by the Small Business Resource Center, in partnership with the Small Business Administration, the city Office of Economic Development, Hawai'i Small Business Development Center Network, Hawai'i Women's Business Center, and SCORE. The program is open to all clients of the center who have attended a center orientation, offered 9 a.m. Tuesdays or 2 p.m. Thursdays at 1041 Nu'uanu Ave., Suite A.
