Fine ordered in tax-evasion case

A businessman accused of failing to file his corporation's annual general excise tax return and annual withholding tax return for 1997 has pleaded no contest in Circuit Court.

Edward Ellenson, former vice president of Total Systems Support Inc., also pleaded no contest to theft for 1998 state withholding taxes.

Circuit Judge Michael Wilson ordered Ellenson to pay $77,893 in restitution and a $3,000 fine. Under a plea agreement, Ellenson must also perform 200 hours of community service.

Total Systems Support, a computer services and software provider, is no longer in business.
