Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i women's basketball will unofficially open its season two months early with Wahine Jamboree 2003. The fund-raiser will be Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. at Stan Sheriff Center.

The Jamboree will feature pupus from Compadres, Henri Loui's, Sodexho, Side Street Inn/Fort Street Bar & Grill, The Chart House and 3660 On the Rise/Kaka'ako Kitchen. There will also be beverages, including wine tasting, entertainment and a silent auction with sports memorabilia, sporting goods, travel packages and other items up for bid.

Tickets are $50. They are available by phone (944-BOWS), Internet (etickethawaii.com) or at the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office.

Each person purchasing a Jamboree ticket gets two tickets to the Dec. 22 game against Fairfield. For more information, call 956-4507.

The Rainbow Wahine officially start with the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort Classic, Nov. 22-23. Hawai'i, which went to its fourth consecutive WNIT last season, opens against Lipscomb. Maine, another WNIT team, and Washington, which reached the NCAA Tournament, are also in the Classic.

Texas, Virginia and Arizona, which all played in the NCAA Tournament, are in the 25th annual Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic the following weekend. Hawai'i's Western Athletic Conference season opens with road games at Fresno State, Nevada and San Jose State in January.

The Rainbow Wahine return seven players and welcome seven new players this season, their largest recruiting class ever. Kahuku graduate April Atuaia, the leading returning scorer, is the only senior.
