Kailua couple to face pot charges

Police arrested a Kailua couple Sunday on suspicion they were in possession of marijuana.

The man, 39, and woman, 35, were under police surveillance when they allegedly loaded garbage bags containing old marijuana leaves and roots onto a pickup truck at a Kailua residence and drove to the Kapa'a Refuse Transfer Station where they tried to dump the bags at 2:30 p.m.

Police recovered at least two pounds of marijuana that could be smoked from the bags and plan to pursue charges of commercial promotion of marijuana against the couple.

The surveillance involved a suspected drug house, police said.

Security officers help ID suspects

Security officers at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel assisted police in identifying two men who were arrested yesterday on suspicion of breaking into and stealing items from a hotel room.

The men, ages 33 and 19, were confronted by security as they were checking out yesterday at 1 p.m. after being identified through surveillance video and photos of allegedly entering a fifth-floor room next to their own from the balcony, police said. Police obtained a consent to search and recovered items reported stolen in Sundayâs burglary and also a stolen credit card from an earlier burglary.

The men were booked for first-degree burglary and theft of a credit card.
