Blaze damages Lanikai home

A fire intentionally set during a burglary yesterday in Lanikai caused an estimated $60,000 in structural damage to a residence on 'A'alapapa Drive.

In addition, damage to contents was estimated at $15,000, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada.

According to fire investigator Capt. Glenn Solem, someone set fire to a bed in the master bedroom of the home at 1:30 p.m. The home had been burglarized before the fire was started, police said.


Woman arrested in shooting

Police arrested a 40-year-old Nanakuli woman on suspicion that she shot at a man during an argument last night at her Hakimo Road residence. The man, 39, was not injured. The shooting incident was reported at 9:11 p.m.

The woman was booked for attempted murder.


Crash victim was from Pahoa

HILO, Hawai'i — Police have identified a woman who was killed in a single-car crash Saturday as Patti Gene Berry, 52, of Pahoa. Berry died after an accident at about 7 p.m. Saturday when she lost control of her 1985 Honda four-door sedan while traveling south near the intersection of Kilauea Avenue and Volcano Highway near the four-mile marker. The car ran off the road and struck a large boulder.

Berry was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m. Police are continuing an investigation and have ordered an autopsy.
