Gas prices in state reach new highs

By Sean Hao
Advertiser Staff Writer

Gasoline prices state-wide and in Honolulu hit new highs yesterday as the ongoing bus workers' strike continued to drive up demand.

On O'ahu, the price of self-serve regular rose about a penny from Monday to an average of $2.038 a gallon, according to AAA travel club. Statewide, the average price rose slightly to $2.119 a gallon. Both were at least 10-year highs.

The increases in Hawai'i come as prices nationwide and in California dipped slightly as the Labor Day weekend ended.

In California, the price of regular gas fell to an average of $2.153 a gallon, while the nationwide average dropped to $1.732 a gallon yesterday morning.
