Tube Notes

Must see

"American Masters: Arthur Miller, Elia Kazan and the Blacklist: None Without Sin," 9:30 p.m., PBS. Elia Kazan was a masterful director, winning Academy Awards for "A Gentleman's Agreement" and "On the Waterfront." Still, many people remember his low point. In 1952, Kazan saved his career by handing the House Un-American Activities Committee a list of communist sympathizers. They were blacklisted; he prospered. Still, writer Arthur Miller — who had defied the same committee — refused to condemn him. That's the basis for this stunning portrait of two men with much in common, including steep talent, deep friendship and affairs with Marilyn Monroe (a one-time Mrs. Arthur Miller).

Of Local Note

"Yes: Symphonic Live," 8 p.m., PBS. With the grizzled prog-rockers headed to Honolulu later this month for a show with the Honolulu Symphony, here's a peek at what ticket buyers might expect. Filmed in Amsterdam, selections include "Roundabout," "Gates of Delirium" and the entirely appropo "Starship Trooper."

Of Note

"Playmakers," 2 and 3 p.m., ESPN. Here is a chance to catch the first two weeks of this terrific series. The setting is a pro football team where careers are imperiled by injuries, intrigue and temptations. Beautifully written and acted, this is powerful drama.

"Law & Order," 7 and 9 p.m., NBC. In the first rerun, Lucie Arnaz plays a rich cosmetics mogul caught in a messy case involving hormone replacement therapy. In the second, a rich teenage girl is killed in a hit-and-run accident, leading to a deeper case.

"The Simpsons," 7:30 p.m., Fox. In this rerun, Lisa's life is altered by a documentary about Springfield.

Latin Grammy Awards, 8 p.m., CBS. George Lopez has a wonderful touch when doing stand-up comedy. Now he's hosting this awards show, which aims for broad-based appeal. Performers include Ricky Martin, Thalia (popular in Mexico), Bacilos (a Miami rock group) and Molotov (the Mexican rap group).

In addition, Kelly Clarkson teams with Brazilian star Alexandre Pires.

"The West Wing," 8 p.m., NBC. Last week's rerun had Matthew Perry applying for a job as a White House lawyer. Now he has the job and an odd start. On his first day, he pieces together a scandal.
