Ex-'Bow Savovic will play hoops in Belgium

Predrag Savovic's basketball career is returning to Europe this season.

The former University of Hawai'i standout recently signed a one-year contract with Spirou Charleroi, the championship team from Belgium's top league.

"NBA teams were still interested, but it was difficult to get a guarantee," said his agent, Marc Cornstein.

Cornstein did not want to reveal financial details, but said: "It's a good deal, and the main thing is that (Savovic) can continue to play on a high level."

Savovic averaged 3.1 points during an injury-plagued rookie year with the Denver Nuggets last season.

"We're hoping he can have a good year in Europe and then try to come back to the NBA," Cornstein said.

Savovic, a 6-foot-6 guard, last played at UH in 2002, and holds the school record for career 3-pointers (178).
