Brakling leads No. 14 HPU to volleyball sweep

Flavia Brakling pounded a match-high 17 kills and Nadica Karleusa added 14 as 14th-ranked Hawai'i Pacific defeated St. Mary's University (Texas), 30-22, 30-24, 30-13, in a non-conference match last night at the Neal Blaisdell Arena.

The Sea Warriors improved to 5-0, while the Rattlers dropped to 1-4.

The match was delayed in the first game for several minutes because of a power outage at the Blaisdell Arena.

HPU sophomore Vera Oliveira, the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week, handed out a 42 assists. The Sea Warriors play fifth-ranked Barry (Fla.) at 7:30 tonight at Mid-Pacific Institute.

CORRECTIONS

The 'Aiea High School stadium will host its first football game on its new field tomorrow night. Another day was listed in a story in yesterday's Advertiser.

Nani Vercruyssen, who earned a spot on the U.S. national trampoline and tumbling team, placed first in her age group in the double-mini trampoline at the elite level. She also qualified in the trampoline. Another level was listed in a story in yesterday's Advertiser.
