Ron Castillo Jr. and Larry Stubblefield will defend their titles at the AT&T Stroke Play Championship. The Aloha Section PGA major runs Monday to Wednesday at Mauna Kea Golf Course.
The field of 52 tees off at 7 a.m. Monday. The championship flight plays for $15,000, with seniors playing for $4,000.
The Pro-Am is Sunday. The winners of the championship and senior divisions get a roundtrip ticket from Delta.
Castillo, head pro at the Kiahuna Golf Club, won by six shots over Andrew Feldmann last year at Mauna Kea. Castillo's father, Ron Sr., won this event in 1972 and '76.
Stubblefield has won the past two senior titles.
Strong field for seniors event
Jan Stephenson will be surrounded by lots of successful men when she breaks the Champions Tour gender barrier next month at the Turtle Bay Championship.
Stephenson, 51, has received a sponsor's exemption to play at Turtle Bay's Palmer Course, Oct. 10-12. As of this week, 10 of the top 20 on the senior money list have committed to play, along with 14 of this year's winners.
The list includes Hale Irwin, who has won the first two Turtle Bay Championships, and Dana Quigley, who captured the MasterCard Championship on the Big Island earlier this year.
Allen Doyle, Bob Gilder, Jim Thorpe and Vicente Fernandez also are coming to the North Shore. So are Isao Aoki, John Jacobs, Hilo's Steve Veriato and Craig Stadler.
Tickets are $10 daily tournament days. There is no admission early in the week for practice rounds and the Pro-Ams. For more information, call 545-1588.
