Some seniors eligible for property tax partial refund

Eligible homeowners 55 and older can apply for a partial refund of their 2002-2003 real property taxes through Oct. 30.

Application forms for the Real Property Tax Relief Program are available in Honolulu Hale, Room 115, and at satellite city halls.

Applicants may be eligible for if they meet all of the following requirements:

• They have a multiple home exemption on their property for the 2002-2003 tax year.

• Their 2002 total household income (not including bona fide lessees, renters and boarders) is not greater than $20,000.

• The amount of 2002-2003 real property taxes exceeds 5 percent of household income.

The tax may be pro-rated if there is more than one dwelling on the property, or if any part of it is used for rental or business.
