KANE'OHE — Two lightning bolts from Castle High School named Ikaika Ho and Jarred Suzui struck down on Farrington's football team last night, jolting the Knights to 34 unanswered points and a 34-14 victory.

Both teams are now 1-1 in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's rugged Red Conference East division.

"I told our guys there's a big difference between 0-1 and 0-2 in our division," Knights coach Nelson Maeda said. "We were fortunate to give our quarterback time to throw and get big plays from Ikaika and Jared in the second half."

Farrington (1-2 overall) took a 14-0 lead one minute into the second half after a 64-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Eti Atonio to running back Matt Bell.

But two possessions later, Ho and Suzui began a spectacular show of hands, speed and open-field running that exhibited why the slotback duo might be the most dangerous pair in the state.

Ho's 72-yard touchdown reception from sophomore quarterback Bryce Kalauoka'aea helped Castle (2-1) cut the lead in half with 8:32 remaining in the third quarter, then Suzui scored on a 53-yard catch-and-run to help tie it at 14-14 three minutes later.

After the Knights' Jon Horner recovered a fumble at the Farrington 18 on the next series, Kalauoka'aea connected with Ho on an 18-yard touchdown pass in which Ho caught the ball at the 4 and then juked three Governors before darting into the end zone.

"We could only hold those two (Ho and Suzui) for so long," Farrington coach Randall Okimoto said. "Our No. 26 (defensive back Taeao Fagalele) got injured early, and that really hurt us in the backfield. But give Castle credit — they were down, they played hard and they came back."

Suzui picked up where Ho left off in the fourth quarter, making a 12-yard over-the-shoulder touchdown catch to put the Knights up 27-14 with 11:21 remaining. He closed the scoring with a 24-yard touchdown run with 6:03 left.

Ho and Suzui combined for only two catches for minus-1 yard in the first half, but each finished with five catches for 162 and 92 yards, respectively.

"In the second half, I told Ikaika, 'We gotta do this,' " Suzui said. "That's where our conditioning comes in."

Castle's light-but-quick defense also did a superb job of bottling up All-State running back Matt Bell, who finished with just 18 yards on 12 carries. Bell also had six catches for 114 yards.
