YUKIO "YUKI" OKUTSU, a World War II veteran whose Distinguished Service Cross award was later upgraded to a Medal of Honor, has died. He was 81. See story.

DANIEL COSTA, 63, of Hilo, Hawai'i, died Sept. 1, 2003. Owner of Danny Costa Painting Service, Hilo. Survived by wife, Virginia; daughters, Joan Iona and Jacqueline "Jackie" Kahana; sons, Alvin and Anthony Pagan; sisters, Violet Nakea, Lillian Perreira, Thelma Riviera and May Agcalon; brothers, Herman, Lawrence and Herbert Costa, and Gilbert DeCosta; 15 grandchildren. Retired Army first sergeant; and recipient of more than two dozen medals in the Korean and Vietnam wars, including Silver Star, Bronze Star and several Purple Hearts; also, volunteer with Department of Veterans Affairs, Big Island Memorial Committee.
