The Federal Transportation Administration must approve the environmental impact statement on the Bus Rapid Transit system before the project can move into construction. Statements by Cheryl Soon, director of the city Department of Transportation, were mischaracterized in Local News story posted Saturday.
A statement was attributed incorrectly in a Local News story posted yesterday about the Israel Kamakawiwo'ole memorial. Sculptor Jan-Michelle Sawyer said that despite the project's setbacks, she would do it again: "It has been one of the most eye-opening experiences I've ever had. In the beginning, it struck me as very simple and obviously something beneficial to the community. But I think the community will feel particularly proud to have Iz there. He was always about honoring your past, living in the present and looking to the future. To me, that's what he was about. I think he would be happy about being there."
Lynne Waters is the media consultant for the Teamsters and Allied Workers Local 996. Her name was misspelled in a Local News story posted yesterday. In commenting on the bus strike, Waters said the union's message had not gotten out to the public, but she did not say that the Teamsters had done a poor job explaining their actions.
