Hawai'i's Willoughby wins WAC honor again

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i senior outside hitter Kim Willoughby was named Western Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week yesterday.

Willoughby, who also won the award last week, had 102 kills and 42 digs as the second-ranked Rainbow Wahine went 4-0.

She was named most outstanding player of the Aston Imua Challenge, Sept. 4 to 6, as Hawai'i beat Wichita State, Baylor and Pacific.

On Sept. 1, UH beat UCLA in the final of the Hawaiian Airlines Classic.

Hawai'i dropped just one game in the four Challenge victories.

Against Baylor, Willoughby, of Napoleonville, La., tied the UH record for single match aces (6), broke the school career mark for aces (140) and surpassed the 2,000-kill mark.

Willoughby, a two-time WAC player of the year, has won conference player of the week honors eight times in her UH career.

The Rainbows' next matches will be at the Sprint Hawai'i Invitational, Sept. 12-13, at the Stan Sheriff Center.
