Low scores don't paint whole picture

It's always discouraging to hear that Hawai'i's public school system scores low among those who use it. A survey just released by the Department of Education finds that most Hawai'i residents give the system a C or D rating, with just 16 percent giving an A or B.

But as we frequently point out, people here tend to be more positive about their neighborhood school or the school their children attend than they are about the public school system in general.

Despite all the problems, folks still appear to have confidence in their community schools. Hopefully, that means they're not ready to give up on public education because it's everyone's responsibility and there's much work to be done.
