Golf, like reading, is all about fundamentals. So it isn't too much of a stretch to support the cause of literacy with a golf fund-raiser.

Marriott Links to Literacy, a benefit for the Hawaii Library Foundation, tees off Sept. 19 at the Ko Olina Golf Club. In addition to team prizes (and bragging rights), players will try to win a grand-prize trip to Las Vegas or Palm Desert, Calif.

The tournament format is 18 holes and three-person modified scramble.

For more information or to register, call the Hawaii Library Foundation at 837-8069.

Better brows

Eyebrows can be a problem. How thin is too thin? What's the right shape to frame your eyes? How to fill in the follicle-challenged brow?

Help is on the way, from Honolulu-based cosmetics firm Body & Soul.

Its new Perfect Brow kit contains three stencils — fine, medium or full — along with a pencil that's dark on one end, for drawing the shape, and taupe on the other, for filling in the gaps.

The stencils also help perfect plucking.

Hey, guys, this kit's for you, too.

The uni-brow went out with Frida Kahlo.

Perfect Brow kits sell at Sephora for $20.

Kaua'i on travel show

Chuck Henry, who used to be an anchor and reporter on KHVH TV (now KITV-4), brought his Emmy-Award-winning "Travel Café" series to Kaua'i recently. Henry also anchors the news for an NBC station in Los Angeles when he's not hosting the travel series.

At the Kaua'i Marriott Resort and Beach Club, Henry shot a cooking demo on the resort's lawn fronting Kalapaki Beach, where many of the house guests instantly recognized him. "Who's doing your newscast back home?" Henry was asked by one woman.

"Who cares? I'm on Kaua'i," he responded.

The Kaua'i show tentatively airs in December.
