• Changes in California's technology-laden Silicon Valley after "the bubble" burst will be the focus of a speech Friday by James Dean to a local meeting of the UH Angels. Dean, a former chief executive officer of Silicon Valley Bancshares and Silicon Valley Bank, and chairman of the board of the bank and holding company, was recognized in 2001 by Forbes magazine as one of the 60 "most powerful dealmakers." He will also discuss the outlook of angel and venture capital investment in Hawai'i, and introduce his new nonprofit organization, Entrepreneurs Foundation of Hawaii. • Experts in the home remodeling field, including an interior designer, architect, remodeler, landscaper and finance expert, will be on hand for the free "REMODEL IT RIGHT" seminar, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the Town Center of Mililani. The event is sponsored by the Hawaii Remodelors Council, the remodeling arm of the Building Industry Association of Hawaii. • Friday is the deadline to register for the Sept. 24 brown-bag luncheon meeting of the NETWORK OF VOLUNTEER LEADERS, featuring certified "Tongue Fu" trainer Gwen Fujie. Fujie, a former president of the organization, will speak on "ConZentrate!," sharing ways to manage time and focus in the midst of ongoing projects. • The MINORITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER OF HONOLULU offers free, weekly orientation sessions to minority business owners and prospective entrepreneurs. The sessions, scheduled 9 to 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday in the center's offices in Suite 2506 of the Executive Center, 1088 Bishop St., offer advice on business startups, marketing plans, loans, employee handbooks and access to capital. • A free COMPUTER BOOT CAMP is offered 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to small-business owners interested in using computer technology to improve and expand business operations and management. The program is sponsored by the Small Business Resource Center in partnership with the Small Business Administration, the city Office of Economic Development, Hawai'i Small Business Development Center Network, Hawai'i Women's Business Center and SCORE. The program is open to all clients of the center who have attended a center orientation, offered 9 a.m. Tuesdays and 2 p.m. Thursdays at 1041 Nu'uanu Ave., Suite A.
