THE LEFT LANE
Downloading debate

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Whether it comes to downloading the Planet Smashers or the Smashing Pumpkins, this is an ethical dilemma. With the Recording Industry Association of America's recent lawsuits, parents and young people are wrestling with the ethics of downloading.

Is file sharing right? Wrong? A gray area?

Tell us what do you think about the music piracy debate: E-mail us islandlife@honoluluadvertiser.com, or call 525-8035.

Include your name (and spell it fully), your age and a daytime phone number.

Moms unite

The MOMS Club (Moms Offering Moms Support) is growing. Once a network of Honolulu moms getting together for play dates for their children, the club has branched out to Windward and Leeward O'ahu, and could start a Mililani chapter soon. The club offers a newsletter, speakers and discussions, park playdays, playgroups for preschool children, baby-sitting co-ops, service projects, activity groups and a monthly MOMS Night Out. The organization is holding an ice cream social from 9:30 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at Ashley Avenue Park on the Pearl City Peninsula, off of Lehua Avenue. Call Lisa Schapel at 676-9893.

Watching fallen stars

Next time you're following the criminal paper trail on your favorite reality- TV stars on the Smoking Gun (www.thesmokinggun.com), check out the archive of celebrity mug shots.

The site's extensive list of the famous and infamous who have been shot forward and sideways by various PDs includes sports stars, singers, historical figures and gangsters. Mike Lookinland, a.k.a. Bobby Brady (right), is virtually unrecognizable in a picture taken after his 1997 arrest for drunken driving. And actor Matthew McConaughey's expression looks appropriate for someone picked up for playing bongos in the nude. (Seriously!)

About Women hiatus

There is no About Women column today because staff writer Catherine Toth is ill.
