Hawai'i's Kai named WAC player of week

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i forward Natasha Kai has been named Western Athletic Conference women's soccer offensive player of the week, the league announced yesterday

Kai, a sophomore from Kahuku High School, broke the school's single-match record, scoring five goals in an 8-0 victory over Morehead State Sunday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

She also broke the points record in that match with 11.

With those five goals, Kai tied the conference record for most goals in a single match (the other is Ashlee Richmond of TCU).

Before her record-performance, Kai had a hat trick in a 5-2 win over Utah Valley State on Saturday. Kai has 12 goals through seven matches this season and 28 in 24 career matches at Hawai'i.

Lauren Shockley, Rice's goalkeeper, was the WAC's defensive player of the week.

Hawai'i returns to action Saturday, hosting Cornell at 7 p.m. The Rainbow Wahine open WAC play Sept. 26 at Rice.
