Culinary Calendar

Wine Education Classes, Que Syrah Shiraz (comparing Australian and French/American wines) and South of the Border (looking at wines from Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Australia, etc.), by Meritage restaurant in partnership with Kapi'olani Community College, with instructor Lisa Gmur of Better Brands; both classes 5:30-7 p.m. today, at Meritage; $28 each. Food Demonstrations/Tastings At The Compleat Kitchen, featuring Island jams, jellies and liliko'i cream cheese by Island Preserves, noon-2 p.m. Friday, and tropical fruit butters by Liko Lehua, noon-2 p.m. Saturday, at the Ala Moana store; also poppy seed dressing and vinaigrette by Pupukea Gardens, noon-2 p.m. Friday, and Island Essence Teas by the Tea Chest, including the new line of Sheraton Moana Surfrider teas, 3-4 p.m. Saturday, at the Kahala Mall store.

Third Annual Maui Pineapple Picnic, with entertainment by Eric Gilliom, Barry Flanagan and others, pineapple plantation tours, gourmet food booths, pineapple dessert contest, farmers' market and craft fair, hosted by Maui Fresh Fruit Store, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, in the old pineapple plantation village of Hali'imaile, next to Hali'imaile General Store.
