Police homicide Lt. Bill Kato said the dead woman was the manager of Nova Sunset Villas Apartments at 94-207 Waipahu St. and the shooting appears to be a murder-suicide.
Kato said the couple were separated and that the woman was trying to obtain a protective court order.
The shooting was reported about 11 p.m.
The woman’s 37-year-old husband broke into her residence — apartment No. 119 in Building 30 — through the screen and sliding glass door leading to her living room. "He takes her into the bedroom, shoots her and shoots himself," Kato said of the scenario police had put together.
The murder weapon is a rifle, according to Kato.
Neighbors called police after hearing several shots from the apartment. Three children, ages 13-16, who live in the apartment were not injured.
Violence is no stranger to Nova Sunset Villas.
In July, state sheriffs deputies and police were involved in a 5 1/2-hour standoff before taking custody of Michael Gaspar, who was wanted on a parole-revocation warrant.
In June 1999, Navy man Richard Donovan shot his 27-year-old wife, Maryjane Donovan, to death and wounded her alleged lover, 27, at the complex before taking his own life.
