Trust clears up Kahala rumors

Kamehameha Schools has no plans to build a four-story building in Kahala, nor does it plan to turn the YMCA on Kilauea Avenue into a Safeway grocery store, Scott Hayashi, asset manager for the trust, said last night.

Hayashi went before the Wai'alae-Kahala Neighborhood Board to put to rest persistent rumors of the Safeway store coming to Kahala.

"I can say definitively there are no plans to build a Safeway in that area," Hayashi said. "There's a lease on the the YMCA, and there are no plans to replace it."
